From Ocean to Product
Our Processing Journey
Follow the careful journey of Ecklonia maxima from sustainable harvesting to premium wet kelp products, preserving bioactive compounds at every stage.

Stage 1
Harvesting
Our process begins along South Africa’s cold Atlantic coastline, where kelp is hand-harvested under strict environmental compliance.
Freshly collected kelp is immediately packed in ice-lined drums and transported via cold chain to maintain optimal temperature and freshness before processing.

Stage 2
Pre-Processing
At our facility, kelp undergoes temperature checks and cleaning to remove impurities.
It is then minced and micro-cut to uniform size (< 250 microns), with natural preservatives added.
This stage ensures that each batch retains its bioactive compounds and remains stable for industrial and agricultural use.

Stage 3
Processing
Using specialised disrupter and decanter systems, the kelp is finely refined into a paste, syrup, or liquid.
This stage handles up to 2 000 kg per hour, ensuring consistency across every batch.
Larger particles and solids are removed, leaving behind a smooth, nutrient-rich concentrate ready for packing.

Stage 4
Packaging & Shipping
The finished product is packed into flow bins, drums, or smaller containers, then sealed, labelled, and weighed before export.
Our shipping process ensures every delivery is traceable and export-ready, reaching clients worldwide with the same quality as the day it was harvested.

Our Processing Journey
Discover how we transform fresh Ecklonia maxima into premium dry kelp products through careful processing that preserves nutrients while creating stable, long-lasting materials.

Stage 1
Harvesting
Our kelp is hand-harvested along South Africa’s Atlantic shoreline in full compliance with national environmental regulations.
Only the stipes are collected for dry production — separated from the “fronds,” “heads,” and “holdfasts” during beach collection — then carefully loaded onto 6-ton trailers for transport to drying areas.

Stage 2
Pre-Processing
At our coastal sites, harvested stipes are spread onto tarpaulins for natural sun-drying.
Once the kelp reaches less than 15 % moisture, it’s ready for further processing — maintaining nutrient integrity while reducing environmental impact through energy-free drying.

Stage 3
Processing
The dried stipes are milled and classified for uniform sizing, typically between 5 mm and 30 mm.
Smaller fragments and impurities like sand are removed to ensure a clean, consistent final product.
The processed chips are bagged in 30 kg lots, each clearly labelled for industrial use and export-ready.

Stage 4
Packaging & Shipping
Each batch is weighed, packed, and sealed in large containers, ready for export.
Our products are shipped from South African ports to partners worldwide, ensuring traceability and reliability from coast to customer.
